Fortress Verrucole dominates a large area of Garfagnana much of the history of this valley and 'passed beneath its walls. A Colognora chestnut has always been the main source of livelihood for the people of the valley. Since ancient times the inhabitants of the country exploit its wood to keep warm, to make furniture and furnishings, and its fruit for food.
But its leaves are used for animal feed, are not lost. That is precisely Colognora was home to the Museo del Castagno. His birth was made possible thanks to the volunteers, who study the Valley's economy and Stoia Roggio.

The bridge was built to connect the two banks of the Serchio, at the confluence of Lima, and so to reach the hot springs of Bagno a Corsenna, then called Bagni di Lucca.
